The Delta Cultural Center announced that blues guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Michael Burks received the coveted Sonny Payne Award For Blues Excellence. Commonly known as the "Sonny Award," it is presented each year to an individual or individuals who have strongly influenced blues music in Arkansas. Burks, a Little Rock native, has released two critically acclaimed CDs on Alligator Records (2001’s MAKE IT RAIN and 2003’s I SMELL SMOKE), and has toured almost non-stop.
