HOLMES BROTHERS APPEAR ON LATE SHOW WITH DAVID LETTERMAN

Soul/blues/gospel greats The Holmes Brothers - backed by The Precious Three featuring Joan Osborne - performed Can't No Grave Hold My Body Down on The Late Show With David Letterman on Thursday, July 19. In a rare move after the performance, Letterman held up a copy of the their Osborne-produced CD, SPEAKING IN TONGUES, and told his audience of millions of people to "buy several of these."

Since the release of the album, The Holmes Brothers have received major media attention. Wendell Holmes and Osborne appeared together on CNNfn's The Biz. National Public Radio's Weekend Edition aired a nine-minute feature. In addition, the band appeared on The CBS Saturday Early Show, National Public Radio's World Café, Mountain Stage, Woodsongs and A Prairie Home Companion.

SPEAKING IN TONGUES has been featured or reviewed in Billboard, The Chicago Tribune, The Houston Chronicle, The Dallas Morning News, The Philadelphia Inquirer, The New Yorker, The Washington Post and many other regional and national publications. The March 18 edition of The London Times chose SPEAKING IN TONGUES as its "Record of the Week," saying "their rhythms take over your body while their voices go straight for your heart."

SHEMEKIA COPELAND LANDS ON DOWNBEAT CRITICS' POLL

Shemekia Copeland placed at the top of Downbeat's annual critics' poll in the category Blues Artist: Talent Deserving Wider Recognition. Her album WICKED came in second to B.B. King's Riding With The King in the Best Blues Album category. Copeland was also named Female Artist Of The Year and Best Blues Artist (Female) in the Living Blues Readers' Poll and Critics' Awards, respectively.

For their album vu-du menz, Corey Harris and Henry Butler received the Living Blues Critics' Award in the category Best Blues Albums of 2000 - New Recordings, Traditional & Acoustic.

GAYE ADEGBALOLA HOSTS HOUSE OF BLUES RADIO HOUR

Saffire - The Uppity Blues Woman guitarist/vocalist/songwriter Gaye Adegbalola took over the controls from "Elwood Blues" (Dan Akroyd) to host a special edition of the House of Blues Radio Hour. This show is called "Blues is a Woman." Adegbalola programmed the music and will present her favorite blues women of today. The show aired the weekend of July 28-29 on 187 stations across country.
